Zoomable News: Zoom and Animation-Based News Browsing for the Web

With Zoomable News, we attempt to provide a new means of navigating news on the World Wide Web, on existing web browsers using broadly supported, non-proprietary technology. Whereas traditional news sites are navigated by means of scrolling, with changes in level of information abstraction achieved by having users click through to another page, Zoomable News allows dynamic abstraction/ expansion of the news through a zoomable user interface. Zoomable News relies primarily upon manipulation of CSS via JavaScript to implement its zoom feature. We also incorporate animation to maintain the user’s sense of orientation as well as a gesture-based input system to control the zooming functionality.
